Lee Knox, LMSW
Lee Knox (he/him) received his Master of Social Work (MSW) from Fayetteville State University. Attending the oldest public historically Black university in North Carolina, Lee has worked extensively with providing mental health psychotherapy to diverse and/or marginalized populations facing significant discrimination to include People of Color, LGBTQIA+, and military and military families.
Lee’s theoretical approach is eclectic, with relationships and relational dynamics at the center of his work.
Lee specializes in providing individual’s psychotherapy rooted in mindfulness, somatic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic, narrative therapy and is working towards becoming a certified Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist. When working with Lee you can expect to collaborate on setting clear and concrete goals from the first session. Based on your specific goals Lee will provide a treatment plan utilizing one or more of the above-mentioned modalities. Lee has been training as a trauma therapist throughout his career and is excited to now have EMDR as a tool he feels confident working with to help clients overcome traumas they have been carrying for far too long.
Lee provides couples therapy, having been trained in The Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy. The Gottman Method focuses heavily on helping couples to increase intimacy, respect, and communication through evidence-based interventions. Similarly, Emotionally Focused Therapy helps couples to identify their emotional worlds, learn how to communicate about their emotions in helpful ways, and how to stay open in conflict when they want to shut down. Couples working with Lee can expect to be challenged and grow as both individuals and a dyad.
Fun fact, Lee is also a 500 hour trained yoga instructor and meditator who has studied and trained in Rishikesh, India. His experiences introduced him to the concepts of radical transformation and radical acceptance which are now two cornerstones of his theoretical approaches.
