Fees and Insurance

Therapy is an investment – both emotionally and financially. In order to provide you with the highest level and most comprehensive care, we are not affiliated with any particular insurance panel. This is to ensure that we are working from a clinically compassionate space, without having limitations or influence from insurance companies, which can often stipulate what type and the length of treatment clients receive.

It can be challenging to navigate insurance as not all plans are the same, and it’s not always clear how to make sure you’re maximizing your benefits. Here, you will find some guidelines that will hopefully make this process more transparent and less daunting.

We are considered “out-of-network” providers for all insurance plans. What this means is that you are responsible for paying the full fee upfront for each session. At the end of every month, we will either provide you with an invoice (also known as a “superbill”) which you will then submit to your insurance company for reimbursement or we can submit a claim to your insurance on your behalf. Depending on your plan, you will usually get a percentage of what you already paid back to you, which can help offset the out-of-pocket cost of therapy.

To find out more about your network coverage, we encourage you to follow these steps:

  1. Call your insurance provider at the number listed on the back of your insurance card.

  2. Ask your provider what percentage is covered for “out-of-network” or “non-participating providers.”

  3. Ask your provider what the “maximum allowed amount” is per session (this is sometimes referred to as “reasonable and customary fees”) for zip code 10037 for a licensed psychologist. If they ask, the CPT/procedure code is 90834 for individual psychotherapy and 90847 for couples/family psychotherapy.

  4. Ask your provider if you have a deductible for an out-of-network provider and how much it is.

Sliding Scale

We believe that mental health services should be accessible by all and do accept a limited number of clients who are not able to afford the full fee. Please contact us to learn more about this service and discover what your options are.

Telehealth

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic all sessions are currently conducted virtually. We hold sessions on Simple Practice, a secure HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform which utilizes both video and audio. Simple Practice works on all popular browsers as well as smartphones using iOS or Android, giving you access to therapy from wherever you are. Additionally, session can be held via Zoom. Phone sessions can also be held when video options are not possible. If you’re unsure about virtual sessions effectiveness or how they may feel please reach out and we can discuss both the costs and benefits.
